One thing I think we do really well at Business Chicks is curating content that makes you think upside down and sideways.
It’s the learning from unexpected places – I love that someone might see a speaker on the program and think, ‘I’ve got nothing to learn from this one’ or ‘it’s got no relevance to me’ and then they’ll see that speaker, a gem will fall out and they realise that’s exactly why they needed to come.
At this year’s Movers and Breakers conference I had a woman come up to me and say, ‘I’ve just got my money back in one conversation.’ She said she had a huge problem she had no idea how to solve, but that in one conversation with another member, they’d found the solution. She said ‘I didn’t come here to try and get my money back in terms of learning. I came with no expectation and that conversation has just changed everything for me.’
The point here is that sometimes when we push ourselves outside of our comfort zones, when we force ourselves to sit next to a stranger at dinner or move outside of what’s worked in the past, that’s when the magic happens.
This conference was full of little aha moments and the best part those moments – most of them came from the unexpected places.
