We’re all used to working in an office and now find ourselves at our dining tables or if we’re lucky, working from a snazzy home office. At first, it sounds idyllic. We get to stay in our pyjamas and ugg boots, pat the dog all day long, and make as many coffees as we want without fearing our colleagues will think we’re slacking off.
There is a seriousness to all this though and the video calls we’re making all day every day do require a specific set of skills to succeed: we need to communicate clearly and show empathy, while still remaining authoritative and friendly. It’s a lot, right? Running and participating in meetings in person is very different to running and participating in them online, and there are some techniques you need to know to ensure you can both influence others and impact the conversation as well.
To help us navigate this, we’ve called upon our favourite presentation expert, Shelly Horton, to unlock all her secrets about how we can all communicate more effectively and confidently. In this masterclass you’ll learn a heap of practical tips about how to avoid talking over one another in a video call, as well as everything you need to know about setting yourself up for success. Shelly will train us on how to adjust our voices for the virtual world and give us some tips on organising our thoughts before we jump on these calls so that we come across as clear and concise. There’ll be all the technical stuff we need to know to become experts too: getting the lighting right, setting up your camera, and what body language works.
Shelly Horton is a journalist, TV presenter, and emcee and also runs her own company, ShellShocked Media where she teaches presentation skills and media training, all designed to help boost your confidence, so there’s no better person than to lead this special Masterclass.
