"Be kind."

Hey there! My name is Abby and I am the Community Coordinator at Business Chicks. Most of my friends and family ask me, "What does that mean?" When I sit back and think about it, my job is to care and think about people everyday. That might sound a bit vague (and, is that even a job!?) but I love to talk to our members everyday, support them through their lows, and cheer from the top of my voice about their wins.

Kind. Curious. Fair.

My work life blend

Why are you a Business Chicks member?

If there's only one chair at the table for a woman, my solution is just grabbing another chair. And, if that means getting down on your hands and knees and building that chair for scratch, that's what I'm about. And, it's also what Business Chicks is all about. I want to see more women feel confident in pursing the life they want; whether that means asking for that pay rise, starting their own business, not starting their own business, having four kids and 'juggling', or not having kids and still 'juggling', I want to build a world that brings women forward, together, no matter their race, sexuality, ability culture, or what God they believe in. And, have them sitting at that table we built ourselves.

What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?

How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Be kind.

Which women inspire you and why?

My mum and my grandmother. Always. Everyday.

What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?

What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)

Debating! Which, never won me points at high school (shocker!) but it's really built the foundations for me to develop an argument, understand the sides of others, back away when I'm wrong, and then also stand up for what I believe!

What makes you happy?

My mum. My sisters. Watching any sort of musical. Road trips, featuring a four hour concert of me singing.

What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)

I once heard Tracey Spicer say she will feel satisfied when she learns to feel satisfied with what she has. When she was 20, she thought success would be being on TV. Five years later, it's hoping to be anchoring the news. And, so on. I aspire to live by that advice. I'll be successful when I learn to be satisfied with what I have - in the best way possible.
