Founder things for kids Online

"Make things that matter!"

I'm a mother of 2 boys with a background in design, client management and events. One evening, after spending three hours trawling the internet trying to find a dance class in my area to suit my eldest son, I realised that I wasn't going to find what I was looking for. I thought, "why did I just spend so much time doing this with no result?! I wish everything was in one place." Then came the idea of things for kids. My goal is for things for kids to be Australia wide, covering city and regional areas, providing all the information that parents need to keep their children happy, learning, and occupied, from birth to 10 years old. I aim to do this with a website that caters to all levels of web-savvyness, and that is affordable for small businesses to use as well.

hard-working, creative, authentic.

My work life blend

Why are you a Business Chicks member?

I'm looking to be in a space with other female founders. Connecting through events, sharing my business with others and networking.

What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?

Coming up with the idea of thingsforkids.com.au.

How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?

Communicate how I was feeling, be open and vulnerable, and never stop working on a solution to the problem.

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Always be yourself.

Which women inspire you and why?

My Grandmother is my biggest inspiration. She always knew the right things to say to calm me down. She was an amazing knitter and craftsperson, cared about people and was super funny. She had a strength inside her which I can only hope to replicate.

What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?

Losing my father to suicide at age 17 is the hardest thing I have ever faced. It has shaped me in every way in good and bad. But, I wouldn't be who I am today without having experienced it.

What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)

I am a doer. I'm extremely motivated and when I say I'm going to do something I do it. I'm very self-aware and wear my heart on my sleeve. I'm also a crafter who can knit, crochet, sew, screen print, embroider, actually anything crafty I'll give it a red hot go.

What makes you happy?

It's the little moments that make me happy. Taking time out to have a cup of tea or go the visit a friend. Sitting with my children or having a quiet dinner with my husband. The excitement of an approaching holiday or having that nice glass of wine.

What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)

At the moment success for me would be to earn enough money through things for kids so myself and my husband could work on it full time from home. This would give us flexability while our children are small and allow us to live anywhere as long as there is good internet.
