My work life blend

Why are you a Business Chicks member?

I got sick of the male dominated business community organisations and started to look to women centred communities that I could have a role to play in giving back and supporting new ideas

What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?

First experiences of post war conflict in Bosnia and Kosovo

How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?

Recalibrate and start again

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

An old teacher once said ... new teachers donâ??t smile till Easter... she meant you start a new role in February, you should go softly and slowly for a few months because you can always add more and become softer and more relaxed but itâ??s hard to get more focused and more directed if you donâ??t start that way... people are always judging so set yourself up for long term success by managing those fist few months carefully

Which women inspire you and why?

Golda Meir... first woman PM of Israel, part of the whole inspiring leadership of a new country and the woman who inspired a nation... never to old to lead! Julia Bishop... five years Foreign Minister, smart and plays her own game, longevity yet growth in her area of expertise and genuinely cares about community and the inspiring role of leaders in community and service

What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?

Managing the transition back to Australia after 20 years as an international aid work and UN peace keeper. I took active steps to stay engaged with community in Australia and to be involved in service organisations. I know how hard it can be to fit in... I recognise those difficulties and I excel in the differences and benefits that the experience has brought me

What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)

Connecting and engaging with people from all walks of life

What makes you happy?

Walking my Cocker spaniel on the beach, reading a good book

What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)

Positively touching and supporting all of my community through business, friendship and service
