My work life blend

Why are you a Business Chicks member?

I love the BC events! I've also met some incredible women both inside and outside of BC who also happen to be members (and who doesn't like an excuse to drink wine with their friends and call it 'work!?')

What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?

Every day feels like a pinch me moment. Doing what I love and being sought out to help people feels like a pretty damn amazing 'pinch me' moment most days! ALSO: Being invited as a keynote speaker at Facebook HQ to talk all things digital was a bit of a proud one for me!

How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?

Besides chocolate, red wine or french champagne and a good cheese board and chin wag with my closest gal pals? I take time to breathe, get perspective, write down and unpack the roadblocks and then remember the universe totally has my back, I have GOT this and I get over myself and get on with the job. I like to call it "putting my big girl pants on".

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Put your big girl pants on and get on with it! You've got this!

Which women inspire you and why?

Ahh this is such a hard one! SO many. Women generally inspire me. We're pretty damn amazing if you ask me! We do so much, and that spiritual connection or sisterhood that exists really is incredible. Specific women? Elizabeth Gilbert is a constant source of inspiration. Her teachings on creativity and fear have been truly invaluable to me. My Mum. She's extremely brave, determined and she always backs herself and really taught me to follow my heart. My daughters. They remind me to play - I believe we don't do that enough in life today - and they also continue to teach me so many things on a daily basis.

What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?

Losing everything I owned in a house fire, literally overnight. Talk about a massive curve ball! I was so lucky that my husband, daughter and I made it out alive. That experience really rocked my confidence and stability in life. It made me question my self beliefs, and wonder if I somehow deserved to lose everything. (Funny how we so quickly blame ourselves huh?!) When I look back now I have no idea how I survived that time, rebuilding and putting one foot in front of the other, but it reminds me that I really can do anything and I am far stronger than I think. It also taught me that stuff really is just that: stuff. And sometimes, shitty things do just happen but what matters most is how we deal with them. I now know without a doubt that the most important things we have in life are the things we carry inside us, and the people who walk beside us.

What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)

I am extremely intuitive and can very quickly read a business, a person or a problem and understand what needs to be done to remove roadblocks for that person / brand to achieve success through promotion. This can be via marketing, speaking, media, all kinds of things. It's an automatic thing for me that I can't help but do!

What makes you happy?

Helping people tell their stories. Curling up with a good book, a glass of wine and cheese plate (can you see a theme here) and a chin wag with my loved ones.

What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)

Success for me is defined by the fulfilment I get out of the work I do and the results I see my clients enjoy. On a more personal level, success for me is about being able to enjoy a particular lifestyle and the financial freedom to travel, enjoy life and connect with those I love as well as those I don't know I love yet!
