Hideaway Vacation Rental Management Professional Services

"A ship in the harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for."

I took the plunge into my real estate career at 16 years of age. I had dropped out of school and had a driving passion to succeed. I had set myself the goal of activating and embracing change within the real estate industry. However, I was unsure of what that looked like yet. That change was discovered years later during a time that was referred to as the "vacation rental boom". I was recruited straight out of school by one of Launceston, Tasmania's most prestigious Real Estate firms, beginning my career in a sales based environment. Before moving on to continue my career in a globally renowned firm and expanding my knowledge into property management. It was here, paired with regular vacations and an ongoing passion for tourism, that I began to understand the demand for a property management company that specializes in vacation rentals. I launched Hideaway Vacation Rental Management in 2019, at 23 years of age. With my beloved Border Collie Arlo, as my office receptionist, (and sanity keeper). With no prior business experience, but a deep understanding that the property industry was changing. Hence my motto of "Active & Embrace Change". It was the perfect example of "winging it!". Now, with a continuously growing team & portfolio, we are now paving the way for vacation rental management in Tasmania, with the hope of expansion nationally. In my spare time, my partner & I love to travel & explore, with our border collie. We met through our love of the outdoors and now we work to spend our time chasing amazing surf & hiking locations around the world.

Extravagant, Bubbly, but yet still Daggy!

My work life blend

Why are you a Business Chicks member?

I heard about business chicks from Emma Isaacs book "Winging It" at a time where it was exactly what i was looking for!! I had just launched a company, and was needing to be surrounded by women who supported and uplifted me. I have always been obsessed with personal development and continuously growing, and now i feel like i have found a community i can share that with.

What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?

Probably signing my first client after launching my own company. I remember thinking "Well, you cant quit now! They need you!"

How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?

Wine... Wine... Dog Cuddles...and 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 right.. next!

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Probably 2 pieces of advice.. one from my partner & one from my father. My father taught me from an early age.. that if you are in a position in life, where you have options, it is a good position to be in. You are not forced to do anything. Every time i make a decision in business now, i look at the options it presents. My partner said to me once in a passing conversation when i had just encountered a set back "don't deal with it out of emotion!" I now live by this.. never deal with situations in business out of emotion & detach yourself from the outcome.

Which women inspire you and why?

What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?

This is probably a mixed bag of things that all happened at once. When i launched my business, i had just moved away from my home town. My Mother was diagnosed with her 2nd breast cancer, and my partner got offered an amazing 5 month contract abroad. It was one of the most mentally challenging times of my life, because i constantly felt pulled in every direction to be and support other people. I remember feeling incredibly overwhelmed and thinking "How i deal with this now, will shape everything". I became better at stress management & being organised. Being away from my partner became a blessing in disguise, (sorry Nic!) as i was just so busy & as for my mum, it made me rethink my entire business model to structure it to future proof.

What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)

People. I love people.

What makes you happy?

People! The outdoors, my family, my team, my team succeeding, my dog, wine!

What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)

I don't think i will ever reach the stage where i look at myself and define myself as successful. There is always going to be people to help & things to create. My idea of success would be defined as having the flexibility to do and create whatever i think will make a difference in this world.
