"Be the change."

I'm the founder of Vegan Business Media (a content, events and training platform for vegan entrepreneurs), host of Vegan Business Talk podcast and author of Vegan Ventures: Start and Grow an Ethical Business, the first global book providing success strategies for aspiring and existing vegan business owners. I've been an ethical vegan for 23 years - long before it finally became cool and trendy! :) My background is journalism (24 years). I've worked on staff and as a freelancer for a broad range of print and online media in the UK, US and Australia. Bylines include Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, ABC, NewsCorp, MindFood and many more, plus I was a regular Forbes contributor for a year writing about the vegan and plant-based business sector. Through my virtual PR agency, I offer PR, copywriting and content creation services for vegan and plant-based brands and some other ethical and sustainable brands (as long as they're not 'un-vegan'). I live with my wife, Tracie, in Sydney and I love glitter, sequins and disco! :)

My work life blend

Why are you a Business Chicks member?

To meet other business chicks, especially those who are vegan or plant-based or have an interest in this lifestyle or business sector.

What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?

Being given a monthly niche women's magazine to edit and told 'Put what you want in it, as long as it makes money'.

How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?

I now subscribe to the ethos that life is working for me and that the universe has my back. So what may seem like a setback or failure right now is actually in my best interest to make room for something better.

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

You can't always control what happens to you but you can control how you respond.

Which women inspire you and why?

Vegan women who speak out for animals, as well as people and planet.

What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?

Being stood down from my dream job editing a niche women's mag a year after launch and losing my identity which was wrapped up in the job. It's shaped who I am today as I realise I'm more than my work, even if that work is purpose-driven. And it's helped me realise that responding to challenges differently instead of taking a victim approach is far more likely to yield rewards that are good for me and good for others.

What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)

Promoting something I'm super passionate about. Creating valuable, resourceful content.

What makes you happy?

More people becoming vegan.

What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)

Seeing a vegan world in my lifetime, where animals are no longer consumed, used, abused, killed, commodified or exploited. I hope to see continued change in this direction and to play a part in that happening and that's how I'll define success on that front. Also finding and coming back to joy each day. Loving and being loved. Collaborating with amazing people to make a kinder and equitable world for all beings.
