"'There is time for work and there is time for love. There is no other time.' Coco Chanel"

Jennifer is the powerhouse CEO and co-founder of Bayleaf Wellness, an innovative healthcare practice based in the Melbourne CBD. Bayleaf Wellness offers its clients a uniquely bespoke experience, and is focused on empowering the individual to actively participate in their own health journey. Bringing the vision of Bayleaf Wellness to life has been a life-long dream for Jennifer, who has been at the forefront of the medical and allied/complementary health sector for over twenty years. Beginning her career as a registered nurse, Jennifer transitioned into private practice as a Complementary Medicine practitioner. Observing the power and potential of natural medicine to minimise the pharmaceutical burden on the body, Jennifer then worked with Endeavour College of Natural Health to empower graduate allied professionals. Teaching subjects at Endeavor College such as Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology and Pharmacology including Complementary Medicine subjects and the History and Philosophy of Natural Medicine, Jennifer transitioned into an overarching role coordinating Naturopathy courses and became Director of Student Services ensuring the best possible educational experience and outcomes for graduates. Jennifer managed all regulatory and reporting requirements to AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioners Regulations Agency) and TEQSA (Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency) across a national footprint of six campuses Australia wide. Moving back to her hometown of Melbourne in 2017 Jennifer was appointed to the role of Chief Operations Officer at the National Institute of Integrative Medicine (NIIM) â?? a role that supported her views on health and wellbeing via the delivery of integrative medicine. Jennifer reflects that Bayleaf Wellness is the culmination of a lifeâ??s work in studying the positive effects of holistic healthcare on the body, mind and spirit. Jennifer has observed increasing lifestyle pressures are affecting physical, emotional and mental wellbeing like never before, and answering what she sees as a true call to action, Jennifer is excited to place Australia on the global map as a leader in innovative healthcare solutions. As a true Melbournian and country Victorian by birth, Jennifer is a passionate foodie and environmental advocate, and seeks to embed in Bayleaf Wellness that same community-minded spirit and generosity.

My work life blend

Why are you a Business Chicks member?

I joined Business Chicks to network and support other women in business. I also wanted to gain valuable insights on building my own brand and business from other successful women.

What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?

Having the opportunity to finally go it on my own and take my lifelong learning and lessons into my own business and create what I believe the healthcare industry needs.

How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?

By practicing mindfulness and gratitude. I see failures as just another attempt at 'getting it right.' I like the creative proess of re-thinking a situation and learning from the experience.

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

In the game of tennis, keep your eye on the ball, not on your opponent.'

Which women inspire you and why?

Coco Chanel for her inspirational life story and resilience. Her timeless designs have stood the test of time. Brene Brown for her inspirational work on vulnerability and leadership. I love that she keeps it real.

What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?

I think as women raising children into thoughful, resilient and kind human beings is our greatest challenge in these times. My son constantly challenges me to be bigger, bolder and greater each day in making a meaningful difference in not only our lives and others but the world moving forward. Being able to contribute to the next generation is challenging and fulfilling.

What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)

I am resourceful and resilient. I see challenges as a creative process. My greatest asset is my ability to communicate and connect with others in a meaningful way to create longterm connections.

What makes you happy?

Nature, sunshine, friendship, love, music, freedom.

What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)

I think learning to ackowledge the little victories and measure your successes daily is important. Ultimately if you are moving forwards on a daily basis to achieve your ultimate aim you are successful. My ultimate aim is to contribute to a positive change in the lives of others through flipping the current healthcare model from one of disease to wellbeing. If I am aiming high, I would like Bayleaf to be seen as the pre-eminent place for healthcare in Melbourne. I would also like to become a thought leader in this area amd make a real change and difference in the industry.
