My work life blend
Why are you a Business Chicks member?
I am a Business Chicks member to be part of an amazing community. To be surrounded by inspiring, kind, dynamic like minded people. I found my tribe and hope I can offer something to this gorgeous group.
What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?
I graduated from my BSchool Entrepreneurial Business Diploma in
2016, in what was the most difficult year of my life - I did it. I also
went to the Movers and Breakers conference for the first time in 2016, even though I felt a lot of fear about being a large group of accomplished people that I did not know. Living through fear is my new Black!
How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?
Setbacks and failures - I feel it - frustration, sadness, annoyance - and then I look to my learnings from the situation. Everything I learn sets me up to move forward as it should be, with more strength, skills and understanding.
Fear - Whilst we have a love/hate relationship I know that to move through fear is where I get my biggest learnings, growth and power. There is no growth without moving through the challenge and taking away a learning - I know it is an opportunity wrapped in a challenge.
What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Whether you think you can or think you can't- you are right; and if I can add one more - living in gratitude and giving enriches your life beyond measure.
Which women inspire you and why?
My Mum - her grace, her elegance, her simplicity with which she moved through life, her laughter, her intelligence, her kindness, her ability to accept herself and others, her unconditional belief in me and her great love of me.
Emma Isaacs - for living her generosity and gratitude in action, for connecting deeply and making those in her presence feel special
Olivia Ruello - for her beautiful brain and her honesty
Cathy Burke - for her profound ability to observe and deliver wisdom in a very practical way
Margie Warrell - for encouraging others to live a brave and courageous life through example
Brene Brown - for her amazing work on vulnerability
Nicole Kidman - for her grace
Oprah - for living a big life and sharing it with us all
My female friends - who know me and support and love me
What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?
My Mum being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in July 2014 and dying in November 2016. My Mum was my best friend and I miss her hard. I had no idea how to navigate through a world without my Mum in it. Emma Isaacs reached out to me in genuine care and it was the difference that made the difference, that helped me find my courage to think beyond the grief. I started moving through fear and challenging myself.
I harnessed my energy to make a difference. I am now on the board for MND South Australia and a volunteer Community Visitor for MNDSA. I actively fund raise and promote awareness. Thanks to lessons I have taken from Cathy Burke and Margie Warrell - I find courage and l live bravely and I ask for donations so we can together make a difference - it takes a village and I am learning to risk rejection for the greater cause - to get out of my own way. So many lessons learned - including self belief, gratitude, humility, persistence.
What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)
Kindness, empathy, passion, thinking outside the square to find solutions to challenges and develop improvements, learning
What makes you happy?
Laughing with my husband, watching my puppy play on the beach, eating beautifully prepared seasonal food, cooking for others, time with friends, enjoying a good glass of wine (or 2), learning, travel, feeling energetic, kicking goals
What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)
Leaving this world in some way better from having lived here. Having people who love me and who I love. Positively impacting the lives of others. To continue to have forward momentum in all areas of life. To learn to have unconditional self love.
