"Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself."

In 2018 I launched my business The Slumber Loft, an online destination selling luxurious sleepwear for both men and women. Coming from a retail background, my experience has mostly been in the footwear sector, but I saw a gap in the market for sleepwear that's cute enough that you won't be scared doing the school run in them. All sleepwear is made from natural materials and are designed to fit all body shapes. I live in Melbourne with my two teenage daughters and am currently undertaking my Masters in Human Rights. When not reading, writing or researching, I spend my days with my kids, watching them grow into strong and independent women.

Determined. Loyal. Brave

My work life blend

Why are you a Business Chicks member?

I love working/operating within a community of women.

What's been the biggest pinch-me moment of your career?

Probably getting my work published around the world and seeing it resonate.

How do you deal with setbacks, failures and fear?

I think with age we learn to redefine these things. A setback gives us moment for pause and reflection. Failure shows us that we must navigate to a new direction and the only thing to fear is fear itself. It's only real in the minds of people who allow it to be there.

What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Maya Angelou said, â??When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.â?? I love this.

Which women inspire you and why?

Oprah inspires me every day. She has reached such heights of success by simply engaging with and uniting women.

What's been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did it help shape who you are today?

My life has been filled with challenges, some of which have been harrowing so say the least, but rather than shy away from it and suppress these memories, I have shared them through my writing and I think this is why my writing has touched the hearts of so many women around the world. Regardless of who we are or where we come from, ultimately as women we share the same struggles. I believe that the more we open up and talk about them the more we unite as women.

What are you really good at? (We know this one's hard, you guys! As women, we tend to talk about what everyone else is good at. But now it's your turn.)

I am a really good mum and I say that because my daughters are incredible, strong, resilient and happy girls. I am a really good friend as I come from a place of love in everything I do. And finally, I am a great communicator in both expressing myself and listening to others.

What makes you happy?

Women who are living their best lives make me happy.

What's your definition of success, and how will you know when you've got there? (Go on, aim high!)

My definition of success is a woman who is living her authentic life.
